Rochester, NY – September 22, 2026 – The companies return to InCabin Europe with a joint interior sensing platform, continuing to build out a camera-and-radar solution on a Texas Instruments automotive chipset AWRL6844.
Tobii Autosense, the automotive interior sensing arm of Tobii, has partnered with D3 Embedded and HTEC to build an interior sensing platform running on Texas Instruments’ automotive-grade System-on-Chip and its high-resolution radar sensor. The partners will present the system at InCabin Europe, taking place September 22 through 24, 2026, at La Farga de L’Hospitalet in Barcelona, showcasing continued progress on combining a single camera with radar for complete interior coverage on a Texas Instruments platform. Attendees can experience the system running in real time at Car Showcase 300.

The AWRL6844 integrates four transmitters and four receivers, enabling high-resolution sensing data at an optimized cost for OEMs. This data feeds into application-specific AI-driven algorithms on a customizable on-chip hardware accelerator and DSP, significantly improving decision-making accuracy and reducing processing time.

The processing backbone comes from Texas Instruments’ TDA4VEN, a member of the Jacinto 7 family built for the demands of automotive AI. The chip houses dedicated accelerators reaching 4 TOPS, giving the system enough headroom to run deep learning models for driver and occupant monitoring in real time. A heterogeneous design that pairs ARM CPUs with vision accelerators and DSPs keeps latency low while holding up under the harsh conditions automotive hardware has to tolerate.
On the visual side, the STMicroelectronics VG5761 image sensor handles sensing duties, offering strong sensitivity and wide dynamic range that hold steady even in dim cabin lighting. Working alongside it, the Texas Instruments AWRL6844 mmWave radar sensor operates in the 60 GHz band, picking up occupant presence, minor body movement, and vital signs regardless of darkness or a blocked line of sight.
Pairing one camera with one radar unit lets Tobii Autosense close gaps that camera only systems tend to miss, covering scenarios like intruder detection, a child left behind, or occupant readings blocked by objects inside the cabin. Radar picks up exactly where a wide field of view RGB or near infrared sensor runs into its physical limits.
Each partner brought a distinct piece to the platform. Tobii Autosense supplied its proprietary interior sensing technology along with decades spent in AI, machine learning, and signal processing. D3 Embedded drew on 27+ years of embedded systems expertise to develop, integrate, and tune the camera and radar hardware and TDA4x processor board, and to develop the camera-radar sensor fusion and compute stack. HTEC contributed end to end ADAS know how and deep familiarity with Texas Instruments SoCs, tying together software, radar, camera hardware, and the vision pipeline into a single working system. Texas Instruments supplied the Jacinto 7 TDA4VEN SoC and its AWRL6844 mmWave radar technology as the foundation underneath it all. Built around passenger safety, the single camera setup gives OEMs a path toward driver and occupancy monitoring that lines up with global safety mandates now taking shape.
“What made this collaboration work is that each partner brought deep expertise from their respective field, and by combining those strengths we were able to solve a complex technical problem and develop a system that improves vehicle safety,” said Lakshmi Sriraman, Marketing Manager Texas Instruments. “That’s the real value of a partnership like this. It gets safety features into vehicles faster than any one company could manage on its own.”
Anyone attending InCabin Europe can see the platform running live at Tobii Car Showcase 300, where the team will walk through how the fused approach raises the bar for driver and occupant monitoring.
